United by our vision. Leading with empathy. Pioneers in curiosity. Healios exists to bring exceptional healthcare to anyone, anytime, anywhere. By digitising entire clinical pathways, we enable children, adults and their family members to receive and seamlessly transition between clinical services from the comfort of their home. Innovation is at the heart of what we do as we strive to be the leading provider of neurodevelopmental and associated mental health services.
We are looking for a mid-level software engineer–someone who is growing into ownership. They are a full-stack generalist who wants to own features end-to-end, is comfortable with ambiguity and seeking out their own answers, and naturally wants to keep their team in the loop without being chased. They would rather ship something imperfect than debate the perfect approach. They write things down, ask good questions, hold opinions loosely, and stay out of trivial debates. They are curious about AI not just for moving faster, but for producing better work, and they think in terms of user outcomes, not just code.
What you need to have
- Proven work experience as a full-stack developer of at least 3 years using Ruby on Rails
- A desire and curiosity to work with a modular monolith Ruby on Rails app (previous RoR experience is desirable)
- Some experience of AWS, Github Actions, Docker, and Grafana will be desirable
- A good understanding of writing modular code via design principles and enthusiasm for writing readable and extensible code
- Initiative and motivation to own tasks to their completion and contribute to success of projects through prototyping
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills in a fully remote environment while working with technical and clinical stakeholders
- An open and pragmatic mind set
- A commitment to ethical practice and adherence to the highest standards of safeguarding of adults/children

How to prepare for a job interview at Healios
✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills
For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.
✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks
Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Healios uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.
✨Showcase Your Projects
Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.
✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions
While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
