As a member of the Clinical Directorate and reporting directly to the Chief Clinical Officer, the Head of Assessment Services will be responsible for our assessment services across Autism, ADHD, Core Needs and private services through Melios and ensuring our clinical people feel valued and that we meet both internal and external performance targets. Being a trusted member of the team with the respect of your peers and wider colleagues will be essential to be successful in this post.

This post is about ensuring we do everything we can to effectively use the resources we have, in getting us further towards our company purpose, and deliver against organisational and strategic objectives. To be a part of this team and successful in post, you must be self reflective, driven to deliver and have a desire to improve our services, our people, and yourself.

You will work closely and have managerial responsibility for the wider Clinical management and clinical teams, and through your ability to direct, influence, and work through others, you will achieve the results we have in the short and medium term. Developing your own team, as well as your attention to detail in developing/monitoring systems and processes that get us to the outputs/outcomes required, is therefore essential to be successful.

You must be able to effectively communicate and hold others to account while working with and influencing them.

You will manage relationships with specific departments within Healios and Melios and be responsible for the following:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performance Targets: Responsible for meeting and exceeding both internal and external performance targets.
  • Translating Strategy into Practice: Work within the overall clinical strategy to design and embed scalable assessment models, ensuring services remain clinically robust, digitally enabled, and operationally efficient.
  • People Wellbeing and Engagement: Champion a culture where the wellbeing and engagement of our clinical workforce are top priorities. Ensure that our clinicians feel valued, supported, and motivated to deliver their best work.
  • Change Management: Understand, communicate, and manage the impact of changes on clinical operations. Obtain support and buy-in for necessary changes, and execute those changes within our direct control. Foster effective communication throughout the directorate regarding changes that impact clinicians and team managers.
  • Delivery of Service Innovation: Take forward agreed priorities for diversification and scaling of assessment services, translating organisational vision into operational reality through clear implementation plans, systems, and workforce alignment.
  • Operationalisation of Growth: Ensure that new service opportunities, once identified, are effectively operationalised, embedding them into existing structures with attention to quality, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Team Development: Foster the creation of a highly specialised and interdisciplinary team that includes professionals with expertise in neurodevelopmental conditions, sensory processing, language disorders, and cognitive challenges. Encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and ongoing professional development within this team to ensure a comprehensive and holistic approach to addressing the complex needs of individuals receiving services. This approach should extend to assessment, intervention, and treatment planning, ultimately leading to improved outcomes and a more nuanced understanding of neurodevelopmental issues.
  • Boundary with Treatment Services: Work collaboratively with the Head of Treatment Services to ensure clear service boundaries and smooth handovers. Maintain responsibility for assessment-related operations without duplicating treatment planning or therapeutic delivery oversight.
  • Availability: Be on call for Healios\’ clinical services when required, ensuring continuity of care and support for clinicians and clients.

Case Management Support for Team Managers:

  • Team Manager Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Team Managers within each Business Unit to ensure effective case management and coordination of clinical cases. Support Team Leads in optimising team performance, client outcomes, and resource allocation within their respective units.
  • Performance Assessment: Assist Team Managers in regularly assessing team performance, including case allocation and effectiveness. Provide guidance and feedback to enhance their case management skills.
  • Resource Allocation: Collaborate with Team Managers to allocate resources effectively, ensuring manageable caseloads and prompt client service.
  • Case Reviews: Facilitate case reviews and discussions to address complex cases and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans. Encourage open communication and knowledge sharing among team members within each Business Unit.
  • Team Training and Development: Support Team Managers in identifying training and professional development opportunities for their teams to meet the diverse needs of clients.
  • Reflective Practice: Facilitate reflective practice alongside the Product Team to ensure relevant issues are addressed and reflected upon. Ensure that the practice models are current and up-to-date.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Assist Team Managers in data collection and analysis related to case management, resource utilisation, and client outcomes. Help prepare reports that offer insights into team performance and improvement areas.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Facilitate effective communication between Team Managers and stakeholders to support decision-making and the smooth operation of each Business Unit within treatment services.

What you need to have

  • A current and active registration with the HCPC or NMC
  • Previous experience working within an independent healthcare provider
  • At least two years in a senior leadership role
  • A mindset and leadership style that is flexible, open to challenge and can effectively challenge others to think differently
  • Experience of transformation, project management
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of establishing processes that lead to improved performance and efficiency
  • Ability to interpret guidance to establish the most effective and efficient pathways of care, and the associated workforce to deliver it
  • Using and understanding data to improve clinical quality
  • Collaborating with other clinical and non clinical colleagues, and working as part of the senior clinical operations management team
  • Able to work under pressure to meet key performance indicators and organisational objectives
  • Superior interpersonal skills and a positive, approachable manner – excellent communication skills
  • Have a professional home working environment

Ideally, we would like you to be trained and experienced in a range of quality improvement methodologies; however, we will provide the appropriate training where this is required.
