HealdProtect is the service and maintenance division of Heald, a global leader in advanced perimeter security solutions for over 30 years. We install, maintain, and support unique physical protective systems across critical infrastructure, commercial environments, and public spaces.

The Role

This is a hands-on field-based engineering role responsible for:

  • Installation, servicing, and maintenance of:
    • Automatic bollards - including the multi-award-winning Matador
    • Barriers
    • Access control gates
    • Associated control & safety systems
  • Delivering both planned maintenance and reactive callouts
  • Working across London, the South (as far north as Birmingham) in varied environments (urban, roadside, commercial)

This role combines structured daytime work with independent out-of-hours response, requiring strong decision-making and ownership.

What You MUST Be Able to Do (Core Requirements)

Technical & Work Capabilities

  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults
  • Carry out installation, commissioning, and servicing
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
  • Respond to breakdowns and resolve issues efficiently on-site
  • Work safely in public, roadside, or live environments

Working Style

  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Make real-time decisions on-site
  • Handle pressure and unexpected challenges calmly
  • Take ownership of problems from start to finish

Practical Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel regularly across London & the South
  • Comfortable working alone (including occasional night work)
  • On an on-call rota
  • Occasional Saturdays (5 days in 6 rota)
  • Ability to pass background/security checks

Nice-to-Have (Not Essential – We Will Train You)

  • Prior experience with:
    • Bollards, barriers, gates, or access control systems
  • Backgrounds such as:
    • Mobile or breakdown engineer
    • Plant / construction equipment
    • HGV / fleet maintenance
    • Reactive maintenance roles
  • Industry-specific knowledge of security systems

Important: Direct industry experience is not required — full product training will be provided.

This Role is NOT Suitable If You:

  • Require a strict 9–5 routine
  • Dislike travel or London driving
  • Want predictable, low-pressure workdays
  • Need constant supervision or support on-site
  • Prefer passing issues on rather than owning solutions
  • Are uncomfortable working alone or on call
