Finance Trustee/Treasurer required to join the board of a vibrant and successful Stafford based charity (posted Sep-25)
To improve life after a brain injury, we offer help and support to survivors of an Acquired Brain Injury. Our services are dedicated to providing the required support for people to regain their independence, choice and opportunity.
Overview
The Treasurer role is crucial: we need someone to keep us financially on track and viable, and to help formulate our future vision. As a trustee you will be part of a team, contribute your unique skills, learn from others, and help Headway South Staffordshire make a greater difference in the lives of brain injury survivors.
Becoming a trustee is a rewarding way to volunteer with a local organisation, meet new people, and gain skills in areas such as team working, strategy and management. You will learn about brain injury and how the organisation supports people through challenging periods to regain independence.
You may be drawn to this cause because you are passionate about brain injury, have personal experience, or want to campaign for improvements in service provision and awareness.
What are we looking for?
We seek people who bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board. In particular, we are looking for the following skills for the role of Treasurer:
- A finance professional with knowledge of charity finance; experience with cloud accounting packages and spreadsheets is an advantage.
- A strategic thinker who can balance risk and opportunity.
- Clear communicator who can explain financial information to non-finance colleagues.
- Willingness to participate in forecasting, budgeting, and liaising with auditors.
In general, we are looking for all Trustees to have the following:
- Willingness and ability to understand and accept responsibilities and liabilities as trustees and to act in the best interests of the organisation.
- Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise independent judgement, and work effectively as a board member.
- Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussions.
- A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Enthusiasm for our vision and mission.
- Willingness to lead according to our values and commitments.
- Commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
What will you be doing?
Headway South Staffordshire has undergone a period of change, making now the ideal time to join our board to further enhance the services we offer. In addition to trusteeship duties, the Treasurer maintains an overview of the charity’s financial affairs, ensures effective financial controls and procedures are in place, and reports to the Board on financial health at regular intervals.
We meet online once a month, with a face-to-face AGM in November. There are opportunities to meet members and other trustees at events organised by the staff. Potential trustees are encouraged to visit the centre to meet staff, members and volunteers and to attend a board meeting.
