Are you looking for a unique opportunity to turbo charge your career development in a busy but flexible role? Headstogether Consulting is a human resources consultancy providing specialist advice and support, on a project-by-project basis, to high profile clients in the public, private, and not for profit sectors. Careers here offer more of what true HR professionals crave: variety, opportunity, brilliant clients, flexibility, and a supportive team.

What's involved?

  • Monday: Carrying out interviews or writing up a report for a workplace investigation on behalf of a public body (maybe on a disciplinary, grievance, dignity at work or whistleblowing issue).
  • Tuesday: Delivering face to face training for a local council on a people related subject, for example how to conduct a workplace investigation, how to manage performance, or how to manage change.
  • Wednesday: Might be your day off. We welcome applications based on 30 hours a week or more.
  • Thursday: Working on a job evaluation programme and salary benchmarking project for a charity or a housing association.
  • Friday: Helping design a bespoke leadership development programme for a further education college. Also answering an interesting query from a small business client about hybrid working.

Correcting some misconceptions:

  • We don't have sales targets. Unlike other consultancies, we don't ask our consultants to do sales. We prefer to give them the space to deliver service that adds real value to our clients. Then the repeat business looks after itself.
  • We're not an advice line for small businesses. Our people spend most of their time on specialist HR projects for public sector and not-for-profit clients. We do have some small-business clients who rely on us for outsourced HR support from a named advisor that they know and trust. Whilst this only takes up maybe 3 or 4 hours a week for our consultants, making a real and immediate difference to these clients can be incredibly rewarding.
  • You don't need consulting experience to join us. Very few of our people come to us from a consulting background, and you'll be fully supported to develop the breadth of HR experience and the consulting skills you'll need. If you're willing to learn, we're happy to build on the experience you already have.

So, what type of clients would I get to work with?

We do a lot of work for non-departmental public bodies, for example the Northern Ireland Policing Board, the Probation Board, Education Authority, the Fire and Rescue Service and Public Services Ombudsman, to name just a few. We work for all 11 local councils and most of the local housing associations. We also support a variety of not-for-profit clients like Ulster Rugby, Cricket Ireland, Action Renewables, NI Screen, and Children's Heartbeat Trust.

There's no such thing as a typical Headstogether consultant. Whether you're coming back to work after a career break, at an earlier stage in your career and looking to develop, or wanting to work flexibly to fit around caring responsibilities, we'd love to hear from you. We understand that there's more to life than work and if you're committed to giving great service to our clients, whilst developing your HR knowledge and skills, then we're committed to giving you the flexibility to make that happen.

Benefits:

  • Generous salary commensurate with experience
  • Employer contributory pension
  • Private medical insurance
  • Funding for vocational training
  • Annual leave allowance increasing with service
  • A free day off on your birthday every year

Don't take our word for it: We've put together a little Welcome Book that explains who we are, what we do, and what it's like to work here. Please download it from our website. Navigate via the menu to Who We Are, then select All Together More on the grey bar.

But if you want the unvarnished truth, straight from our staff themselves, they've made a film for you. Management weren't involved, and they didn't see it until it was finished. That's the version you can see on our website, alongside the welcome book.
