At Headstart Residential Care, we support young people with complex needs, including Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties (EBD), Learning Disabilities (LD), Autism, and ADHD. Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where young people can thrive, develop, and reach their full potential.
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Children's Residential Care Mentor to join our team. You will play a vital role in supporting young people in a residential setting, helping them build confidence, develop life skills, and achieve positive outcomes.
Working Pattern
- Standard shifts: 7am-11pm & 9:30am-11pm
- Sleep-in shifts available and paid at £80 per sleep-in
- Sleep-ins are not contracted, however flexibility is required to commit to an average of one per week
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting Young People
- Build positive, respectful relationships and act as a role model
- Promote socially acceptable behaviour in line with company policies
- Provide emotional support, guidance, and mentoring
- Ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of young people at all times
- Encourage participation in recreational, social, and educational activities
- Care & Environment
- Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and structured home environment
- Keep living spaces clean, organised, and welcoming
- Maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive information
- Planning & Activities
- Plan and engage young people in meaningful activities
- Support personal and social development through structured routines
- Recording & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records and case notes
- Complete reports on young people's progress and well-being
- Contribute to care planning and review meetings
- Teamwork & Development
- Attend and contribute to team meetings and training
- Support new staff during induction
- Engage in ongoing professional development
- Additional Duties
- Provide transport for young people (school, activities, appointments)
- Take part in sleep-in duties when required
- Step up to support senior staff when needed
Requirements
- Minimum age: 21 years old
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
- Experience working in care or with young people (essential)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
