At Headstart Residential Care, we support young people with complex needs, including Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties (EBD), Learning Disabilities (LD), Autism, and ADHD. We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Children's Senior Residential Care Mentor to join our team. You will play a vital role in supporting young people in a residential setting, helping them build confidence, develop life skills, and achieve positive outcomes.
Working Pattern
- Standard shifts: 7am-11pm & 9:30am-11pm
- Sleep-in shifts available and paid at £80 per sleep-in
- Sleep-ins are not contracted, however flexibility is required to commit to an average of one per week
Minimum age: 21 years old
Essential Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience working in care or with young people
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- Level 3 Residential Childcare
Overall Responsibilities
- Primary
- Actively contributing to creating and sustaining a positive and nurturing environment in the home.
- Understand and be well-versed in the philosophy and policies of the organization.
- Actively participate in planning and engaging young people in recreational and social activities.
- Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work.
- Young People
- Build positive and respectful relationships with young people.
- Promote and reinforce socially acceptable behaviour among young people.
- Offer guidance and counselling to young people.
- Contribute to the safe supervision of young people.
- Take on the responsibilities of a Key Worker for specific young people.
- Maintain open and effective communication to identify and address any problems faced by young people.
- Staff Group
- Engage in professional development activities.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings.
- Participate in in-service training programs.
- Support the orientation of new staff members.
- Assist in creating work schedules that meet the needs of both children and staff.
- Assessment, Recording and Reporting
- Utilise the organisation's systems for documenting and tracking progress.
- Create social and emotional reports when necessary.
- Participate in specific meetings for evaluating and planning care.
- Resources
- Use available resources efficiently to meet the needs of young people.
- Ensure living areas are kept orderly and clean.
- Management, Organisation and Administration
- Assess and monitor the quality of relationships among young people and staff.
- Step into the role of Shift Lead when necessary.
- Maintain comprehensive casework records.
- General Duties
- Be willing to take on additional tasks as deemed reasonable.
- Provide transportation for young people.
- Be available for sleeping-in shifts as needed.
