You’ve done the year-ends, dealt with the queries, led the team, and delivered month after month of accurate, compliant pay runs. But right now, you’re looking for something shorter term. A 6-month interim payroll manager role that makes the most of your experience, without the long-term strings. This is that role. £50k-equivalent day rate. 6 months. Hybrid working.

You’ll step in and take charge of a group payroll function that’s steady but needs steering. There’s a team in place – team leader, officer, assistant – and they need a safe pair of hands. As interim payroll manager, your focus will be keeping everything running smoothly: delivering monthly payroll, managing HMRC reporting (P60s, P11Ds), overseeing statutory compliance and supporting on the annual pay review.

But you’ll also have space to shape. There’s ongoing work around system improvements, streamlining processes, and moving towards more self-serve functionality. If you spot better ways of working, they’ll want to hear about them. You’ll be the go-to for all things payroll, working closely with Shared Services and acting as the lead for payroll systems – so confidence with HRIS is important.

This would suit an experienced payroll manager who’s between roles, prefers interim work, or wants the flexibility of a shorter-term gig. You’ll need solid technical knowledge (PAYE, NI, SMP/SSP, etc.), a background leading payroll teams, and the kind of calm confidence that comes from having seen it all before.

If you want to add real value in a short space of time – and be properly rewarded for it – this interim payroll manager role is worth a look.
