My client is a mechanical & electrical contractor who specialize in retail and commercial projects across the UK. They are located in near Wakefield and have an excellent reputation and offer a true end-to-end service – from store construction and consolidation to fixture procurement, projects, and mechanical & electrical installation. They are now recruiting for a Mechanical Estimator. The successful applicant will work in a small team of estimators. Working in the commercial team the Mechanical Estimator will help manage a continual pipeline of opportunities and will be responsible for ensuring accurate cost estimates and robust commercial submissions are in place for each bid, working across the M&E business. The Mechanical Estimator plays a vital role in helping win profitable and competitive tenders. You’ll use your technical expertise, market insight, and commercial awareness to develop accurate cost estimates that reflect true project value, ensuring the company is always positioned to succeed in a competitive marketplace. Main responsibilities * Prepare detailed project cost estimates, material take-offs, and cost breakdowns. * Review supplier and subcontractor quotations for accuracy and compliance. * Support the tender process, including bid preparation, coordination, and handover to project teams. * Analyse market rates, benchmark data, and project risks to ensure competitive and accurate pricing. * Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to maintain strong commercial relationships. * Drive continuous improvement within the estimating function. Knowledge and skills required * A minimum of 5 years spent in a similar capacity within the construction industry, ideally with a Mechanical contractor. * Good sound knowledge of Mechanical specification and materials. * Technical knowhow of M&E design elements and construction principles. * Ability to interpret preliminaries, specifications, drawings, schedule of works, Bill of Quantities and Contract Documents. * Technical Skills: Proficient in preparing mechanical estimates, interpreting specifications and drawings, and applying benchmark cost data. Qualifications * GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths required * HNC/BTEC in Construction or Mechanical Engineering desirable * Degree or chartership advantageous
