At Headley Professional Recruitment Ltd we are currently recruiting an Estimator or Senior Estimator for the civil engineering division of a great client. The company is a construction main contractor who work on civil engineering and new build construction projects between £500k and £30 million in value. They have offices in Scunthorpe and Wakefield, and the Estimator / Senior Estimator could be based from either office. They’re recruiting an experienced professional who can work on tender projects from receipt to submission in their civils division. The company is a very solid business with a low staff turnover rate.
As Estimator / Senior Estimator you will produce accurate, competitive, and innovative tenders, where you will be able to draw on your construction knowledge and consider alternative solutions and value engineering. The role involves bidding for a mix of single and two stage tenders, as well as negotiating bids. You will support the Pre-Construction team with the tender submission. The role requires that you build effective relationships with team members, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
Responsibilities:- All general estimating duties in connection with the preparation of tenders, estimates, value engineering reports/exercises, proposals, clarifications, cost plans, and budgets
- Taking off and the production of schedules required for the estimating process as required
- Marking up bills/schedules to produce and send out subcontract and supplier tender enquiry packages to a selection of competent and competitive subcontractors and suppliers
- Ability to unbundle certain works packages to produce more competitive tenders
- Effective and regular liaison with client, client’s agent, architect, engineer, statutory agencies, and other relevant individuals
- To represent the business in a professional manner at meetings and interviews i.e., design team meetings, mid bid interviews and post tender interviews
- To work with the pre-construction team to ensure all aspects of cost required to undertake the works are included within the cost estimate
- Actively seek out new competent and competitive supply chain members to strengthen our existing supply chain
- Previous experience as an Estimator or Senior Estimator for a civil engineering main contractor
- Ability to read and understand construction specifications and drawings
- Strong knowledge of standard estimating practices
- Comfortable and convincing in public presentations and project interviews
- Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritise and work well under pressure
