Design Manager

My client is a leading UK main contractor who specialise in retail and commercial projects across the UK. They have an excellent reputation for delivering fast-track fit-outs, refurbishments, and new build projects for major retail brands across the country. Due to continued growth, they are recruiting an experienced Design Manager to join their major projects team.

As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for managing the design process from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring that the design meets client expectations, budget, and programme constraints. You will liaise with internal teams, clients, consultants, and subcontractors to coordinate the delivery of high-quality design solutions aligned with construction methods and project objectives.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the design process across multiple concurrent retail projects (fit-out, refurbishment, and new build).
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, M&E consultants, and other design professionals.
• Review and manage design deliverables in accordance with project timelines and client requirements.
• Ensure compliance with relevant building regulations, CDM regulations, and health & safety standards.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Design Manager within a main contractor, ideally in the retail construction & Fitout sector.
• Strong technical knowledge of construction processes, methods, and materials.
• Ability to interpret and coordinate architectural, structural, and MEP designs.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Degree/HND in Architecture, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or similar (desired)
