I am working with an excellent firm looking for a solicitor, with commercial property experience, to join a close-knit team of like-minded lawyers. The existing team are well-regarded and specialists in their field and are now looking to further develop the department’s reach. The calibre of the department’s client base, which includes well-known international food manufacturers and distributors, blue chip trade supply companies, large pension providers, housing associations and mainstream commercial lenders ensures it punches above its weight when it comes to quality and variety of work. The department also acts for a range of commercial landlords and tenants, SME developers and charities. The ideal candidate must therefore be able to adapt to the varying needs and demands of each of these clients.
As a team, the department takes pride in knowing their clients’ aims, objectives and preferred ways of working, therefore offering a superior level of service, tailored to each client; a one size fits all approach is avoided by the team. The ideal candidate will have a good grounding in commercial property at a specialist or full-service law firm and will be able to cope well with all aspects of the commercial property life-cycle. A professional and approachable manner is essential, and it goes without saying that you should also have an eye for detail, without losing sight of commerciality. You will be used to working to tight deadlines, handling routine matters with minimal supervision, but willing to be on hand to assist with more complex matters/issues when the need arises.
The ideal candidate must also have an interest in the growth of the department’s client base through business development and networking, wherever possible. The right person will be willing to positively promote and provide a professional impression of the company, wherever possible. The commercial property team are based in the firm’s Bristol office and whilst we support agile working, you should be willing to be in the office for at least 2 days a week. The commercial property team is part of the wider Business Legal Services Department and works closely with our corporate and commercial teams.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Confidently handling own matters with particular emphasis on your specialist field to service the company's clients;
- Managing and taking responsibility for your own files and making effective use of the company's case management system;
- Showing a sound understanding and technical knowledge of the principles and issues in your area of expertise and property law generally;
- Maintaining and improving existing client relations;
- Managing expectations of clients and effectively dealing with any complaints that arise as in line with company policy;
- Effective communication with clients;
- Enthusiasm and a willingness to participate in marketing and attendance at networking events to support the wider team.
Essential experience required
- All aspects of real estate acquisitions and disposals;
- Commercial Landlord and Tenant work;
- Secured lending;
- At least 2 years’ relevant post qualification experience or equivalent;
- Self–sufficient whilst also having the necessary qualities to work as part of a team;
- Strong technical skills and knowledge;
- Possess excellent problem solving, organisational and verbal/written communication skills;
- Competent at using a case management system;
- The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines and targets;
- An ability to enthusiastically participate in business development and networking and an understanding of the importance of their role in raising the profile of the commercial property team and the wider business.
