  • Primary Responsibilities
  • In the role of

Sustainability & Resiliency Area Business Class Lead UK (Director level) , we'll count on you to:

• Lead by example

  • Represent HDR and BES as a leader - with a Client/Customer service mentality.
  • Work hand in hand with the Managing Principal, Office Principals, and fellow Area Business Class Leads, as a member of the area BES leadership team to facilitate the successful operation of the group.
  • Motivate individuals and the S&R section.
  • Exert a positive influence in the work environment and help to maintain S&R team morale.
  • Engage with fellow "Area Business Class Leads" throughout BES and build a community of practice around technical excellence and project delivery for S&R business class whilst work collaboratively to satisfy and support the enterprise needs.
  • Work closely with the S&R and fellow Regional Business Class leaders to align culture of technical excellence in the S&R section.

• Supervise staff

• Manage staff within business class

  • address personnel issues
  • Maintain job descriptions for S&R career levels/roles, to support provision of guidance on career pathways
  • delegate responsibilities
  • strategic planning of business class group at the area level
  • Recruit and develop talent in collaboration with relevant S&R technical leads and project managers (and other relevant leaders).
  • Mentor staff and conduct annual review and outlook conversations for staff.
  • Provide technical and professional guidance.
  • Help staff with professional development and career plans/growth.
  • Work delegation and staffing
  • Coordinate workload needs with Project Managers
  • Work with S&R Team Leads to assign staff to projects and align workload with project schedules, staff availability, and staff expertise.
  • Coordinate with the Managing Principal and S&R Regional Business Class Lead for workshare outside the area, as required.
  • Monitor utilization performance vs goals for staff within the Sustainability & Resiliency section.
  • Project delivery accountability and enforcement
  • Take an active role in supporting PM's with monitoring project budgets and schedules within the S&R section.
  • Communicate with staff within the S&R section and Project Managers to ensure project info is clearly understood by all:
  • Scope
  • Budget
  • Deliverables
  • Programme
  • Forecasting
  • Assist the Managing Principal and Office Principals in determining short-term, mid-term, and long-term forecasting for the S&R business class.
  • Support leadership to align team size and capabilities relative to forecasted requirements.
  • Assist with project proposals related to the S&R business class for resourcing purposes.
  • Technical Delivery
  • Take an active role in monitoring technical delivery within the S&R section.
  • Support PM's with allocation of resources for Quality Checking and Review.
  • Undertake Quality Checking of S&R technical delivery processed and outputs
  • Communicate with team leads and staff within S&R section to promote quality, consistency and working to deadlines.
  • Liaise with Digital Area Business Class Lead to ensure workflow processes for interfacing between the S&R section and Digital teams are understood and adhered to.
  • Business Development
  • Support business development, client engagement and market growth initiatives
  • Contribute to bids, proposals and opportunity pursuit activities
  • Identify opportunities for cross-selling and expanded service delivery
  • Promote HDR's capabilities in the marketplace
  • Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
