Role Overview
We are building a year‑round talent pipeline in the United Kingdom for experienced Commissioning Verification Engineers and Commissioning Managers, both freelance and permanent. These roles are critical to ensuring that building services systems are designed, installed, commissioned and operated correctly, safely, and in full compliance with applicable standards and project requirements. Commissioning Managers also provide leadership, oversight and coordination across the full commissioning process, working closely with project teams and stakeholders.
For Commissioning Verification Engineers:
- Deliver on our commitments to clients on time and to required quality levels.
- Review and attend commissioning activities.
- Validate commissioning results and ensure they meet project specifications.
- Inspect existing systems to assess performance and compliance.
- Conduct surveys and technical inspections.
- Provide technical advice on commissioning strategies, programmes, and scopes of work.
- Oversee commissioning documentation, quality processes and compliance standards.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and act as a key point of contact for clients and contractors.
- Monitor progress, identify risks and implement mitigation measures.
- Ensure robust reporting, performance tracking and technical governance across all commissioning phases.
For Commissioning Managers:
- Lead the full commissioning process across complex or multi‑disciplinary projects.
- Coordinate the activities of commissioning engineers, subcontractors and wider project teams.
- Develop comprehensive commissioning plans, strategies and programmes aligned with project objectives.
- Oversee commissioning documentation, quality processes and compliance standards.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and act as a key point of contact for clients and contractors.
- Monitor progress, identify risks and implement mitigation measures.
- Ensure robust reporting, performance tracking and technical governance across all commissioning phases.
Additionally (Verification Engineers And Managers):
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve systems, processes and ways of working.
- Act as a technical champion in a specific area of expertise.
- Represent and promote the company through marketing and client‑facing activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work safely and in compliance with company health and safety policies.
- Maintain a diligent, efficient, and professional approach.
- Ensure technical accuracy and production of high‑quality deliverables.
- Work closely with main contractors to develop commissioning strategies aligned with project needs.
- Adopt company project and internal management systems.
- Maintain financial awareness and manage relevant project expenditure.
- Attend internal and external meetings as required.
- Prepare reports containing technical, commercial and programme information.
- Develop project‑specific commissioning management and validation documents.
- Review drawings, manuals and technical submissions.
- Produce method statements, test scripts and related documentation.
- Identify project scope changes and report them internally.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to assess progress, challenges and costs.
General Duties:
- Plan ahead to ensure the availability of test instrumentation.
- Support the development of tender submissions.
- Complete weekly timesheets accurately.
- Proactively support colleagues across the business.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineering degree and/or LEED® accreditation.
- Strong mechanical, electrical or controls background (highly desirable).
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience with mechanical, electrical and controls systems.
- For Commissioning Managers: demonstrable experience leading commissioning processes on large or complex projects.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be willing to travel to site‑based locations as reasonably based on HDR needs.
- Must be an experienced engineer, either a licensed PE or a field technician with excellent understanding of MEP systems, HVAC controls, the T&B process, etc.
- Must have good computer skills and effective typing skills.
- Understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Project software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Be familiar with the organisation of design documents, the preparation of the multidiscipline designs and the delivery of the design & construction services.
- Strong knowledge of construction practices, systems engineering, operations fundamentals, contracting and general business operations.
- Understanding of project accounting and financial management tools.
- Ability to prioritise and organise work; ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently.
