The role
To support the UK DA Underwriting Manager in underwriting the UK DA book. To profitably underwrite new and renewal business. To assist in winning new profitable UK DA opportunities for HDI.
Key accountabilities
- To analyse new and renewal business in-depth to ensure it meets underwriting criteria and margin.
- To comply with all relevant underwriting guidelines and procedures at all times.
- To monitor KPI’s and data packs provided by clients on a monthly basis and to arrange and participate in data calls to analyse these.
- To manage and assist in managing the underwriting process in accordance with the appropriate checklists and guides.
- Review and assess wordings and underwriting criteria with Legal & Compliance.
- To set premium forecasts and business plans in agreement with Finance.
Relationship Management
- Build strong and effective relationships within the business, including other underwriters, claims, actuarial and colleagues in Hannover.
- Represent the company externally at client meetings, insurance conferences and broker meetings.
Claims
- To work closely with the Claims team to ensure early identification of issues and solutions to emerging challenges.
Actuarial
- To work closely with the Actuarial team to continuously monitor accounts and to proactively identify problems including the dedicated personal lines actuary.
Project Management
- Participate in DA & branch wide projects as required.
Skills & experience
- At least five years’ of Underwriting experience as an Underwriter/Assistant Underwriter.
- Excellent knowledge of the fundamentals of Commercial Insurance with specific knowledge of the UK market.
- Experience of UK Commercial Insurance and a good understanding of issues and challenges.
- Open to consider candidates from SME to mid-level Commercial experience.
- Good understanding of insurance pricing and underlying principles.
- Experience of working closely with Claims and Actuarial.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to consistently hit deadlines.
- Ability to effectively manage conflicting priorities.
