The role

  1. Support the Compliance team in the delivery of functional strategic plans by handling key day-to-day tasks essential to the operation of the Compliance function. A key area of this role will be in the area of Compliance monitoring across a diverse spectrum of corporate and specialty classes of business for 3 legal entities in the UK and 4 branch offices, one of which is based in Ireland.
  2. Helping to ensure that all activities undertaken by the business are conducted in a compliant manner and in accordance with the FCA, PRA and Central Bank of Ireland.
  3. Updating and communicating all policies, standards of conduct and procedures to the business; and helping to organise training where necessary.
  4. Assisting with the effective functioning of the Compliance Team, ensuring adherence to internal and external deadlines and meeting our regulatory obligations.
  5. Researching and understanding changes in legislation, how they would affect the business, and communicating changes to the business.
  6. Responsible for supporting the Compliance team in ensuring that all activities performed by HDI Global UK & Ireland – particularly Compliance monitoring – are conducted in accordance with relevant regulations and in accordance with HDI UK & Ireland’s (and its parent HDI Global SE) internal standards and controls.

Key accountabilities

  1. Compliance monitoring across underwriting and support function activities to ensure proper compliance with relevant processes and controls.
  2. Monitor the dedicated Compliance Inboxes to assess and distribute emails to other team members as appropriate.
  3. Help coordinate the annual Conflicts of Interest declarations.
  4. Breaches Reporting: Work with the team to log all Breach reporting to a single location (and ongoing maintenance of the central Breach Log) and to assist in maintaining the Breach Log. To log Incidents reported and escalate these to the Compliance Officer. Categories may include:
  • Regulatory breaches.
  • Breaches of HDI UK/Ireland requirements – internal and external.
  • Breaches of FCA Conduct Rules.
  • Work closely with the Compliance Officer in managing the US Surplus lines licence, dealing with regular US state data calls and annual regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Review Gifts and Hospitality Requests, provide approval or gather further information as necessary.
  • Assist with management of the Training Schedule, roll out training modules and monitor completion.
  • Manage and log notifications from the Global Licensing team where other HDI EEA offices are writing UK business on a Freedom of Service basis.
  • Assist with Product Governance reviews and assessments.
  • Assist with the management of governance processes, including company policies and procedures, and audit action tracking. Support the compliance officer with preparing status reports to senior management.
  • Assist the Compliance Officer and wider compliance team with ongoing and one-off projects as required.
  • Skills & experience

    1. Several years proven experience working in UK Compliance functions.
    2. Experience within the General Insurance sector (preferred).
    3. Some experience of dealing with relevant regulatory bodies (e.g. FCA, Financial Ombudsman Service or overseas Ombudsman services).
    4. Able to interpret, understand and apply all relevant regulations.
