We are working with a well-established organisation seeking a Senior Infrastructure & Network Engineer to take ownership of their core IT infrastructure and network environment. This is a hands-on role supporting both head office and remote/project-based environments. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the stability, security, and ongoing improvement of systems, with a strong focus on network security and Fortinet technologies.
Reporting to the IT Director, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management, security, and optimisation of the organisation’s IT infrastructure. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners, acting as a technical escalation point while also driving improvements across the environment. This role requires a proactive engineer with strong Fortinet and firewall experience, alongside a solid infrastructure background.
Key Responsibilities- Network & Security (Core Focus)
- Lead the implementation, management, and support of Fortinet solutions, including:
- FortiGate firewalls
- FortiManager & FortiAnalyzer
- FortiClient VPN
- Own and manage firewall policies, VPNs (site-to-site and remote access), SD-WAN, and network segmentation.
- Monitor, analyse, and respond to security events and logs using FortiAnalyzer.
- Drive continuous improvement of network security architecture and best practices.
- Support secure connectivity solutions across multiple locations (including temporary or remote sites).
- Provide hands-on troubleshooting for complex network and firewall-related issues.
- Infrastructure & Cloud
- Administer Windows Server environments (Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services).
- Support and maintain virtualised environments (Hyper-V).
- Provide basic administration and support for Microsoft SQL Server.
- Manage Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Endpoint, Entra ID).
- Assist with Azure infrastructure and services.
- Cyber Security
- Apply security best practices across infrastructure and systems.
- Support vulnerability management, patching, and system hardening.
- Assist in incident response and remediation activities.
- Ensure compliance with IT security policies and standards.
- General IT
- Provide 2nd/3rd line support and act as an escalation point for complex issues.
- Contribute to infrastructure projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain clear and up-to-date technical documentation.
- Strong experience in IT infrastructure and systems administration.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Fortinet technologies is essential (FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer).
- Proven expertise in firewall management, network security, and VPN technologies.
- Solid networking knowledge (TCP/IP, VLANs, SD-WAN).
- Good understanding of cyber security principles and frameworks.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 and Windows Server environments.
- Relevant certifications (e.g. Fortinet NSE, CCNA, CompTIA Security+) are highly desirable.
