The Role – Infrastructure Engineer
As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management, security, and ongoing improvement of the company’s IT infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical role, supporting both the head office and construction sites, ensuring systems remain secure, reliable, and fit for purpose. Reporting to the IT Director, you will work closely with internal teams, external suppliers, and technical partners. The role requires a strong technical foundation, a proactive mindset, and the ability to balance infrastructure management with user support.
Key Responsibilities
- Network & Infrastructure
- Implement, manage, and support Fortinet security and networking solutions, including: FortiGate Firewalls, FortiClient VPN.
- Manage firewall policies, site-to-site and client VPNs, SD-WAN, and network segmentation.
- Monitor and analyse security logs and events via FortiAnalyzer.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of network security architecture.
- Support connectivity solutions including FTTP, Starlink, and 4G/5G deployments.
- Configure and manage networking equipment for temporary construction project offices.
- Provide remote and on-site support for connectivity and infrastructure issues across project locations.
- Systems & Cloud
- Administer and support Windows Server environments, including: Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS / DHCP, File Services.
- Support and maintain Hyper-V virtualised environments.
- Manage and troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Server environments (basic administration).
- Support Microsoft 365 services, including: Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams.
- Assist with the administration of Microsoft Azure resources.
- Cyber Security & Best Practice
- Apply cyber security principles and best practices across infrastructure and systems.
- Support vulnerability management, patching, and system hardening.
- Assist with incident response, investigation, and remediation.
- Support compliance with internal IT policies and external security standards.
- Promote security awareness and secure configuration practices across the organisation.
- General IT Operations
- Provide 1st / 2nd / 3rd line support, including escalation for complex technical issues.
- Contribute to IT projects and infrastructure improvements.
- Maintain system documentation, network diagrams, and technical records.
Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in IT Infrastructure and Systems Administration.
- Hands-on experience with Fortinet solutions, particularly: FortiGate, FortiManager.
- Solid networking knowledge including: TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, SD-WAN.
- Good understanding of cyber security principles and best practices.
- Strong experience managing Microsoft 365 environments.
- Experience with Windows Server administration and virtualisation.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA, or similar would be advantageous.
