We are seeking to recruit a Child Psychotherapist who is passionate about early intervention and parent/carer-infant relationships. The role will involve delivery and development of a high-quality parent-infant mental health service including direct work with families and working with other professionals offering consultation, supervision, and training within our Parent-Infant Mental Health Service (PIMHS). With supervision and additional training, the successful candidate will manage their own caseload providing assessment, formulation and parent-infant interventions. The successful candidate will be passionate about working in this field and have knowledge and experience of working with infants and their parents/carers. An understanding of working within CAMHS, Adult Mental Health Services and of assessing risk within the perinatal period is required.
Main Responsibility
- Ensure interventions are planned in an integrated and coordinated manner, especially when reliant on external agencies identified through supervision or complex case discussions.
- Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to support the formulation, management, and treatment of service users.
- Communicate assessment, formulation, and treatment plans with skill and sensitivity.
- Develop care packages post-consultation, ensuring active involvement of parents and infants, with a focus on assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Conduct specialist psychotherapeutic assessments for referred families and collaborate to determine the most suitable treatment.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs for professionals in parent-infant mental health services.
- Lead audit and research initiatives within the team, implementing findings and driving service development.
- Deputise for the Team Manager/Clinical Lead in their absence.
- Provide clinical supervision internally and externally, and support the training of trainee Child Psychotherapists/Clinical Psychologists.
The Ideal Candidate
- Essential: Master’s level preclinical training at an Association of Child Psychotherapists-recognised school. Postgraduate doctoral training in clinical child psychotherapy at an accredited training school, or Statement of Equivalence from the Association of Child Psychotherapists, or Doctoral-level Clinical Psychology accredited by BPS/HCPC. Experience in specialist psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment of families as part of a multidisciplinary team in community, primary care, outpatient, or inpatient settings.
- Desirable: Pre-qualification training in health, social care, or education settings. Experience working with families ante/perinatally.
