Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist, child-centred physiotherapy assessment and intervention for children with complex needs, using evidence-based practice and sound clinical reasoning.
  • Autonomously manage and prioritise a complex caseload, responding to urgent referrals and adapting to unpredictable work demands.
  • Interpret complex assessment findings to set therapy goals, contribute to multidisciplinary diagnosis, and develop, implement and review individualised therapy programmes.
  • Deliver therapy programmes through individual and group sessions across home, community and education settings, adapting and discharging appropriately.
  • Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to children, parents/carers and professionals, using accessible language and gaining valid consent.
  • Provide empathetic support to families, including those experiencing distress, grief or frustration related to their child’s condition.
  • Produce high-quality specialist reports and maintain accurate electronic clinical records in line with professional and organisational standards.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary and external agencies, attending and organising meetings, making referrals and supporting tribunal processes when required.
  • Plan and coordinate daily therapy service delivery, including oversight of therapists and assistants.
  • Supervise, appraise and line-manage Band 5, 4 and 3 staff, and provide supervision and support to students.
  • Plan and deliver training for parents/carers, education staff and professionals, and present paediatric therapy topics internally and externally.
  • Deputise for the Band 7 Physiotherapist as required.
  • Contribute to service development, clinical audit, research activity and performance monitoring.
  • Maintain professional competence through CPD, reflective practice and supervision in line with HCPC and professional body requirements.

Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Registered and compliant with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Evidence of postgraduate training or equivalent experience relevant to the specialty
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, government policy and professional standards
  • Minimum of 2 years’ post-graduate physiotherapy experience
  • Broad knowledge of current evidence-based practice within paediatric/community settings
  • Relevant clinical therapy experience aligned to the role
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuous professional development
  • Competence in the use of standardised assessments
  • Experience of effective multidisciplinary team working
  • Ability to plan and deliver training to staff, parents/carers and other professionals

  • Membership of Special Interest Group

Other requirements: the successful applicant will need to have a valid UK Driving Licence and access to a car for work purposes.
