What does this Waking Nights Support Worker job involve?

Hours of Work: 0 - 37 Hours Per Week - Shift: 22:00 - 08:00

Main Duties and responsibilities:

  • To monitor, support and observe clients in the evening and overnight, ensuring their physical safety, especially those undergoing medical detox.
  • Provide practical and emotional support to clients throughout the shift, delivering person‑centred care in line with individual care plans.
  • Administer medication according to policy and medical instruction, take vital signs, carry out observations, and report any out‑of‑range results or concerns to the clinical team.
  • Complete CIWA‑Ar and COWS assessments, and carry out random urine and breathalyser testing in line with alcohol and opiate detox protocols.
  • Record all interventions accurately on the OneView system, complete incident reports promptly, and participate in handovers with day staff.
  • Manage the out‑of‑hours emergency phone, responding appropriately and liaising with on‑call staff when required.
  • Support clients with daily living tasks, including preparing breakfast, encouraging hydration and nutrition, assisting with room cleaning, laundry and general self‑care.
  • Ensure clients attend fellowship meetings and motivate them to engage in treatment activities and routines.
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment by completing end‑of‑shift checklists, turning off appliances, cleaning spillages safely and preparing rooms and beds after client discharge.
  • Discharge clients in line with procedure when required, ensuring documentation and room turnover are completed correctly.
  • Report to the line manager, attend supervision and CPD, and work in accordance with all organisational policies and protocols.
  • Always ensure confidentiality, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity.
