Senior Technical Lead – Embedded Systems responsible for leading system architecture, requirements engineering, model‑based development, integration, testing, and functional safety for off‑highway and automotive machinery. Based in City of London, United Kingdom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead systems architecture & concept development across electronic, hydraulic, mechanical, and operator‑interaction domains.
  • Drive functional decomposition, allocation of behaviours across ECUs, sensors, actuators, and subsystems.
  • Develop full‑machine behavioural models (plant and control interaction) with MATLAB/Simulink or SysML and guide model‑based control software.
  • Define end‑to‑end requirements flow‑down using JAMA; ensure traceability across software, hardware, mechanical domains.
  • Define system‑level requirements, interface specifications, and operational scenarios for machine features and safety functions.
  • Define integration strategies using SIL, HIL, bench tests; diagnose issues with CAN tools and structured problem‑solving.
  • Develop system safety concepts and functional safety architectures per ISO 13849, ISO 19014, ISO 25119, ISO 26262.
  • Mentor teams on safety‑related design principles and validation practices.
  • Provide technical leadership across electrical, software, systems, hydraulic, and mechanical teams; lead design reviews and promote best practices for MBSE and architecture governance.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Technical Expertise
  • Deep experience in systems engineering within off‑highway, automotive, aerospace, industrial, robotics, or other complex mechatronic domains.
  • Strong proficiency in model‑based development using MATLAB/Simulink or SysML.
  • Hands‑on experience with requirements management tools such as JAMA and issue‑tracking tools like JIRA.
  • Proficient with CAN tools (e.g., CANalyzer, CANoe) and logging/diagnostic workflows.
  • Strong understanding of ECU architectures, distributed control systems, sensors/actuators, powertrain systems, and safety features.
  • Domain Knowledge
  • Understanding of off‑highway machinery (hydraulics, propulsion, driveline, work functions, operator control systems).
  • Appreciation of environmental and reliability challenges (vibration, thermal stress, contamination, EMC).
  • Leadership & Soft Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical direction, influence designs, and align cross‑functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and systems‑thinking mindset.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities for ambiguous system‑level issues.
  • Ability to mentor and uplift engineering teams in best practices.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering or related field.
