BAU Support Manager / Senior SQL Developer Job Specification Role summary: A hands‑on BAU support and SQL/SSIS technical leadership role responsible for the stability, troubleshooting, enhancement, and documentation of critical data integration systems across DEV, UAT, and PROD environments.
About the Role We are seeking an experienced BAU Support Manager / Senior SQL Developer to lead the support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and enhancement of critical data integration and reporting solutions. The successful candidate will combine strong hands‑on SQL Server 2019 and SSIS 2019 development skills with the ability to manage business‑as‑usual support activity, diagnose complex issues, and work effectively across distributed environments where Production is owned and supported by a separate team outside the development lab.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate BAU support activities across data integration and reporting platforms.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex incidents across SQL Server, SSIS, source data, transformation logic, and downstream outputs.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement robust, permanent fixes rather than short-term workarounds.
- Manage support queues, defects, incidents, and enhancement requests through JIRA.
- Maintain clear support documentation, technical notes, runbooks, and knowledge articles in Confluence.
- Work closely with separate Production support teams to diagnose issues, coordinate releases, and restore service.
- Communicate issue status, impact, resolution options, and progress clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot SQL Server 2019 database components.
- Create, optimise, and support complex T‑SQL scripts, stored procedures, views, functions, and SQL Agent jobs.
- Investigate data quality, reconciliation, performance, locking, failure, and integrity issues.
- Tune queries and stored procedures for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Support controlled deployments and fixes across DEV, UAT, and PROD environments.
- Design, build, enhance, and troubleshoot SSIS 2019 packages and ETL workflows.
- Support systems that ingest data from CSV files, Excel files, SQL Server databases, and other structured sources.
- Develop and maintain package scripting, expressions, transformations, connection managers, and error handling.
- Diagnose package failures, data load errors, scheduling issues, performance bottlenecks, and environment‑specific failures.
- Improve existing ETL processes through automation, validation, monitoring, and operational hardening.
- Operate effectively across distributed DEV, UAT, and PROD environments.
- Work within a support model where Production is owned and supported by a separate team outside the lab.
- Ensure defects, fixes, releases, and operational processes are documented and traceable.
- Use Confluence to maintain clear technical documentation, support procedures, known issues, and operational runbooks.
- Use own initiative to identify improvement opportunities, design practical solutions, and reduce recurring BAU issues.
