Job Purpose:

The Finance Operations team (“Fin Ops”) sits within International Finance and is responsible for delivering high-quality internal and external outputs within a controlled framework across Insurance Technical Accounting, Cash, Credit Control, Treasury and Accounts Payable activities. As the function continues to evolve in scale and complexity, there is an increasing focus on leveraging automation, data and AI-enabled solutions to enhance efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve insight. This role will therefore play a key part in driving continuous process improvement and supporting the adoption of technology-led solutions across Finance Operations.

The purpose of this role is to lead the day-to-day activities across Finance Operations (London) whilst supporting the development of the FinOps Target Operating Model, delivering change and process improvement in partnership with the dedicated Finance Change capability and wider enterprise initiatives.

Key objectives include:

  • People: Manage, develop, coach, mentor, empower and support direct reports and their teams. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and openness to automation and new technologies.
  • BAU: Responsible for the Treasury team; ensuring cash flow is efficiently managed within company guidelines including cash flow forecasting, management of liquidity exposure limits, authority limits, banking relationships and currency matching exposure, while identifying opportunities to enhance forecasting and reporting through data and automation tools. Responsible for the Accounts Payable team, ensuring stakeholders are effectively managed with timely vendor/expense reimbursement payments, while supporting the transition toward more automated and efficient processing. Responsible for the Inwards and Outwards Cash and Credit Control teams, minimising debt across all lines of business and ensuring payments/cash receipts are effectively managed and applied within policy systems, with KPI’s and data-led reporting to evidence effective control. Responsible for the team supporting the legacy GCube accounting, the GX expansion and leveraging from our internal International Delivery Centre to build out the Finance capability, including opportunities to standardise and streamline processes through technology and centralisation.
  • Transformation: Supporting the Head of International FinOps, working alongside International FinOps managers to develop and embed the target operating model, including standardising efficient processes and leveraging automation and AI where appropriate. Embedding communication and collaboration mechanisms across locations to enable common working practices with central oversight. Working with the Head of FinOps and Management Team to reimagine processes end-to-end, identifying opportunities for improvement through alignment, process optimisation, automation, and use of data and AI-enabled solutions. Liaising with the embedded Finance Change capability to agree, prioritise, and resource the FinOps change portfolio. Drive delivery of agreed change initiatives across Finance Operations (London), with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and reduction of manual processes. Support in-flight projects by engaging in agreed forums, reviewing process documentation and participating in training, including adoption of new systems and tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • People Management and Stakeholder Engagement: Assist the Head of International FinOps in embedding functional alignment and standardised FinOps processes across existing locations in the UK and Europe. Build strong relationships with stakeholders within and outside Finance across multiple locations, enabling the department to deliver high-quality, effective support. Provide support, guidance and direction, managing escalations with relevant stakeholders. Lead the team by example, promoting collaboration and a mindset of continuous improvement and openness to new ways of working.
  • Treasury Management: Liaise with the London Treasury Manager to identify challenges, opportunities, and areas for improvement, including automation and enhanced forecasting capabilities. Support development of robust short- and long-term cashflow forecasting. Help formalise and improve processes, including those outside of FinOps.
  • Automated Payments: Support the Change Delivery team in deploying automated payment solutions, reducing manual processes while ensuring appropriate controls are maintained.
  • Accounts Payable: Provide support, guidance and direction to the UK Accounts Payable Manager, ensuring activities are performed in a timely and effective manner. Help drive consistent processes across locations and support adoption of best practice, including automation and workflow improvements.
  • Cash & Credit Control: Support Credit Control Managers in driving improvements and standardising processes across teams. Support the implementation of KPI and dashboard reporting (e.g., Power BI) to enhance visibility and performance management. Help formalise roles and responsibilities across Finance, Underwriting, Ceded Reinsurance Ops and Underwriting Operations.
  • Controls, Policies and Procedures: Collaborate with the Controllership team to develop and implement more efficient and automated reconciliation processes. Provide oversight to ensure activities are performed in line with documented policies and procedures, recommending enhancements where appropriate. Ensure policy and procedure documentation is maintained, updated, and aligned to evolving processes and systems.
  • Transformation and Change: Work with FinOps Change Managers and the Finance Change Portfolio Delivery Team to enhance processes end-to-end, leveraging technology, automation, and data-driven insights. Identify and support delivery of initiatives that improve efficiency, reduce manual intervention, and enhance control and scalability of the Finance function.
  • Internal and External Audit: Ensure the team supports external audit requirements in collaboration with External Reporting. Take ownership of remediation of internal audit findings, including embedding sustainable process and control improvements.

Skills and Experience Specification

  • Essential Skills and Qualifications: Qualified Accountant – minimum 5 years post-qualified. Demonstrable experience in Finance Operations within the insurance market, including process improvement and optimisation. Experience managing teams through change and continuous improvement initiatives. Strong team player with ability to collaborate across Finance and the wider organisation. Experience of multi-platform/multi-currency environments. Strong ERP systems knowledge across core Finance modules. Experience identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through process, data, or technology. Experience of outsourcing and/or centralisation into shared service environments. Power BI (or similar data visualisation tools) experience.
  • Desirable Skills: Experience with automation tools, workflow solutions, or AI-enabled finance processes. General Ledger: PeopleSoft.
