Job Purpose:

We are looking for a junior / trainee claims handler to join an 8-person PI claims team based in London, dealing with claims emanating from our growing Canadian book in both the General Liability and Professional Indemnity lines of business. The successful candidate will develop their experience and understanding of legal process; insurance law; negotiating skills; and of the wide variety of trades we insure. They will also benefit from working within the larger Casualty Claims team based in London, Bristol & South Wales which involves regular inter-office collaboration; and where their effort and achievement is recognised by a company in which opportunities for career progression are regularly available. Travel to Canada supported by senior staff will become necessary as the role grows.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing an understanding of Canadian Professional Risk claims
  • Being a referral point for Canadian Third Party Administrator (TPA) queries
  • Corresponding and conversing with brokers, insureds and third parties
  • Drafting appropriate case strategies
  • Setting case reserves in line with our philosophy
  • Assisting with the management, supervision and developments of relationships with various Canadian TPAs, lawyers and loss adjusters
  • Attending internal / external claims meetings
  • Processing information onto the claims system utilising ECF and Lineage where necessary
  • Monitoring and interrogating losses within the TPAs’ authorities

Skills and Experience Specification:

Essential:

  • Previous administration / office experience ideally within insurance
  • At least 3 (A* to C) relevant A-level qualifications
  • 8+ GCSE Grades 5 and above (or equivalent) to include Maths and English
  • Working towards Dip CII
  • High level Excel skills including ability to prepare reports using formula and pivot tables

Desirable:

  • Experience of working within Claims Administration
  • Relevant university degree
  • Experience using ECF and of the Lineage system
