We are seeking to recruit an experienced fee earner to join our Wills and Probate/Private Client team at our Northampton office.

Minimum requirements:

  • 4 years PQE
  • SFE and STEP membership (advantageous)

About The Role / Duties

  • Probate
    • Handling estate administration from start to finish
    • Preparing and applying for Grant of Probate and Letters of Administration
    • Completing tax forms related to Inheritance Tax, Income Tax, and Capital Gains Tax, and providing advice
    • Attending to house clearances where appropriate
    • Collecting and realising assets, paying liabilities
    • Distributing estates and preparing income and distribution accounts
    • Advising on Tax mitigation and Deeds of Variation
  • Wills
    • Taking instructions and advising clients
    • Assessing client capacity when necessary
    • Providing advice on relevant taxes and Tax mitigation
    • Drafting, preparing, and attesting Wills
    • Applying for Statutory Wills when needed
  • Trusts and Tax
    • Providing general advice on Trusts
    • Drafting Trust documents
    • Advising on taxes and Tax mitigation
  • Powers of Attorney / Lasting Powers of Attorney
    • Taking instructions and advising clients
    • Assessing client capacity when necessary
    • Drafting Powers of Attorney
    • Preparing applications for registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney
    • Acting as Certificate Provider
  • Advising and Supporting Elderly Clients
    • Handling their affairs under or without Power of Attorney
    • Managing financial affairs, paying bills, overseeing investments
    • Advising on DSS benefits and applications
    • Knowledge of social care and CHC funding is beneficial
  • Court of Protection
    • Making applications for Deputy appointments and relevant orders
    • Complying with Court Orders and directions
    • Producing accounts for the Court
    • Managing Court-related formalities and client affairs
  • Business Development
    • Proven experience in business development

Additional Details

  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:15 (office-based)
  • Salary: Attractive, dependent on experience
  • Benefits: 26 days holiday plus bank holidays, pension scheme, firm-funded eye tests, monthly holiday bonus scheme
