Islington Council is looking for a dedicated, organised, and proactive Business Support Officer to provide high-quality administrative support to our Children and Families Service. This is a vital role that supports the front line of social care, ensuring our teams can provide the best possible services to children and families in the borough.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive and professional administrative support to ensure smooth and efficient service delivery.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in handling sensitive and personal information.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by managing telephone enquiries and acting as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Handle and process all incoming and outgoing correspondence promptly and accurately.
  • Organise, coordinate, and minute meetings as required, distributing agendas and notes accordingly.
  • Develop and maintain manual and IT-based systems to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Support the processing of financial transactions, such as payments to families, purchase orders, petty cash, and travel warrants in line with council procedures.
  • Maintain accurate filing systems and electronic records with a strong focus on confidentiality and compliance.
  • Contribute to projects, research tasks, and the preparation of management reports and data as needed.
  • Provide personal assistant support to Group Managers and maintain team diaries and movement boards.
  • Monitor and order office supplies and equipment, ensuring availability for team members.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, council policies, and legislative requirements.
  • Promote and uphold the Council’s values of equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of work.

About You

Essential Experience & Knowledge:

  • Previous experience in a busy administrative role.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office and other IT systems.
  • Understanding of the key administrative needs of a busy office environment.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, and delivering high-quality support.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a local authority, especially in children’s social services.
  • Understanding of the workings of a children’s social work team.
