This is a pivotal role within a highly specialist hospital environment, where safety, reliability and operational excellence are essential to delivering exceptional patient care. The team is responsible for maintaining the hospital’s infrastructure, plant and critical systems, ensuring everything runs seamlessly and supports a safe, compliant and well-maintained environment for patients, visitors and colleagues.

This role offers the opportunity to lead within a complex and fast-paced healthcare setting. As Estates Manager, you’ll shape the direction of the Estates and Engineering function while overseeing day-to-day operations. From managing a 24-hour engineering service to delivering capital projects up to £3 million, your work will directly support the hospital’s resilience and long-term sustainability. You’ll also act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, identifying risks, addressing system deficiencies and contributing to future infrastructure planning.

Above all else, we’re committed to the care and improvement of human life. It’s this guiding vision that influences everything we do at HCA UK. From the CEO to the colleagues on the floor we all have a part to play in delivering exceptional care to our patients.

What you’ll do:

  • Ensure full regulatory compliance across estates and engineering services, including PPMs, water safety, fire safety, medical gases and electrical systems, keeping the hospital consistently CQC-ready.
  • Lead a 24-hour engineering service, ensuring responsive and effective management of planned, unplanned and emergency maintenance.
  • Manage, develop and support a team of engineers, fostering strong performance, accountability and collaboration.
  • Advise senior stakeholders on system risks, deficiencies and long-term infrastructure planning.
  • Plan and deliver capital projects up to £3 million, ensuring they are completed safely, on time and within budget.

What you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience managing estates or engineering services within a complex environment, ideally within a healthcare organisation.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams in a 24-hour operational setting.
  • Sound understanding of CQC standards and regulatory compliance within estates and facilities (essential).
  • Relevant technical qualifications or training in a building services discipline, such as City and Guilds or NVQ, with an engineering degree desirable.
  • Strong technical knowledge of health and safety, COSHH and building services systems, alongside excellent organisational and communication skills.
