The Portland Hospital is excited to recruit for a Unit Sister in this new role developing our state-of-the-art Ambulatory Gynae Unit where we see and treat patients using a full range of diagnostic, outpatient and surgical treatments all on one site.

As the Sister in the Ambulatory Gynae Unit you will be responsible and accountable for the provision of high-quality care within the unit, providing clinical leadership, direction and support for all staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Provide expert, individualised nursing care to patients receiving care within the Ambulatory Gynaecology Unit (AGU).
2. Demonstrate a consistently high standard of clinical practice at all times in the provision of care.
3. Respect and ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
4. Provide gynaecology advice and information to support high quality, individualised care to women and their families.
5. Be responsible for the day to day shift co-ordination of the gynaecology unit.
6. Oversee care provided by registered and non-registered staff within their sphere of responsibility.
7. Review ‘workforce planning’ and secure adequate cover from temporary staffing if required.
8. Work closely with consultant gynaecologists to support high quality care.
9. Deal with complex situations and take appropriate action in emergency or unforeseen situations.
10. Work autonomously within guidelines and the sphere of professional practice.
11. Participate in clinical audits and guideline writing to maintain a high quality service.
12. Support the management of the duty rota / annual leave and study leave.
13. Work within the ward / department budget to ensure effective and efficient use of resources.
14. Maximise revenue capture from patient care and seek to develop revenue generation initiatives.

What you’ll bring:

1. Registered General Nurse with valid NMC Registration.
2. Significant post-registration clinical experience.
3. Master’s degree (or working towards) in Women’s Health or Gynaecology or equivalent/higher post graduate qualification.
4. Demonstrable experience of working in theatres, ambulatory gynaecology setting.
5. Leadership or management experience.
6. Teaching/Assessing/mentoring qualification.
7. Basic adult and newborn Life Support.
8. Competent in cannulation and venepuncture.
