HC-One are looking for an Assistant Chef with at least a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate and a great understanding of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points. You’ll be organised and meet deadlines, present your food attractively and have a knack for following recipes perfectly. Whenever you communicate with a Resident or co‑worker, you’ll be truly considerate and kind.

As an Assistant Chef you will cook and serve nutritious, healthy meals that our Residents will love. You will provide outstanding support to the First Chef, taking charge in their absence. You will manage food stock, work out how to make the most of your budget, coach a colleague, supervise kitchen clean‑up, always keeping Resident wellbeing front and centre.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. You must be able to recognise the signs which may indicate possible abuse, harm or neglect and know what to do if there are concerns. All colleagues attend safeguarding training appropriate to their role and undertake additional training in associated areas. You can seek appropriate advice and report concerns, including escalation if action is not taken.

Responsibilities

  • Organise and meet deadlines.
  • Present food attractively and follow recipes accurately.
  • Communicate with Residents and co‑workers considerately.
  • Cook and serve nutritious meals expected by Residents.
  • Support the First Chef and take charge in their absence.
  • Manage food stock and budget.
  • Coach colleagues and supervise kitchen clean‑up.
  • Maintain resident wellbeing as priority.
  • Recognise signs of abuse, harm or neglect and report concerns.
  • Attend safeguarding training and additional associated training.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Understanding of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).
  • Positive, energetic, and considerate personality.
  • Ability to work well with others and cooperate in a team environment.
  • Good organisational skills and time management.
