The role at a glance: As a Network Operations Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in the build, operation and ongoing performance of our fibre network. Working at the heart of our network operations team, you’ll help ensure our network remains reliable, scalable and delivered to the highest safety and quality standards. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone with a strong technical background in fibre networks who enjoys problem solving, continuous improvement and delivering an exceptional customer experience. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-growing telecoms environment and is passionate about customer experience, operational excellence, and stakeholder management.
What you’ll do:
- Act as a point of escalation for customer support and field teams, ensuring customer technical faults are resolved in a timely manner, working alongside other teams to achieve this.
- Day-to-day network and performance monitoring.
- Network troubleshooting and fault analysis; hardware troubleshooting and repair.
- Deployment and maintenance of network monitoring, analysis and reporting tools.
- Application of configuration changes and software upgrades via our change control processes.
- Provide incident response and management during periods of network or service failures.
- Produce and maintain network documentation and data integrity.
- Managing major incidents within HBNL’s network and infrastructure affecting our customer base.
- Ensure stable and reliable network services (e.g. access products, service networks and core network etc).
What you’ll bring:
- CCNA or JNCIA certified or equivalent level of knowledge.
- Solid understanding of some or all the following technologies: IP Protocols (ICMP, UDP, TCP); IP filtering and Firewalling; Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS); MPLS; Ethernet.
- Experience with some of the following is preferred: Juniper, Cisco, Adtran and within an IT, altnet or NOC environment.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage own workload efficiently.
- Proven ability to deliver against operational targets and comfortable working in a fast-paced, operational environment.
- You’ll have a fantastic attitude, be naturally curious and have a relentless drive to make things better.
