Description

Variable Hour Lecturer – Design Surveying & Planning

Inspire the Next Generation of Built Environment Professionals

High-quality teaching plays an important role in helping students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed in further study, training and employment. At Stanmore College, we are committed to ensuring that all learners have access to engaging, industry-relevant education that reflects their individual needs, aspirations and future career goals.

We are seeking a Variable Hour Lecturer – Design Surveying & Planning to join our Engineering & Built Environment team. You will deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across relevant programmes, supporting learners to develop their technical knowledge, practical skills and understanding of the built environment sector.

Join Us at an Exciting Time

Stanmore College is entering a transformative period, supported by a Β£60 million redevelopment investment that will create a modern, sustainable campus for learners, staff and the wider community.

Alongside this investment in our facilities, we are committed to ensuring our students have the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed beyond college. Our focus is not only on what students achieve while they are at College, but also on what they go on to do afterwards. You will play an important role in supporting our careers programme and helping students make positive choices about further study, training and employment.

The Role

Working as part of the Engineering & Built Environment team, you will provide high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across a range of Design, Surveying and Planning programmes. You will contribute to curriculum development and quality assurance, while ensuring that teaching and learning reflect current industry practice and awarding body requirements.

You will:

  • Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across relevant Design, Surveying and Planning courses.
  • Develop and adapt teaching materials, including assignments, project briefs, schemes of work, lesson plans and resource materials.
  • Provide appropriate assessment opportunities and prepare assessment plans and schedules.
  • Support learners to achieve their qualifications and progress to further study, training or employment.
  • Maintain accurate records, including registers, assessment documentation and other course-related paperwork.
  • Contribute to moderation, internal verification and standardisation of assessment decisions.
  • Participate in student inductions, course reviews and curriculum development activities.
  • Keep subject knowledge and professional skills up to date through continuing professional development and industry engagement.
  • Develop effective links with employers and other professionals within the built environment sector.
  • Contribute to open evenings, recruitment activities, promotional events and other College activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support learner retention, achievement and progression.
  • Contribute to the development, promotion and delivery of the team's curriculum and recruitment strategies.

Why This Role Matters

High-quality teaching is an important part of the student experience. Learners have different ambitions, circumstances and starting points, and they need access to engaging teaching and relevant industry knowledge to help them achieve their potential.

In this role, you will work directly with students to help them develop the knowledge, technical skills and confidence they need for their next step. You will also contribute to a curriculum that connects learners with current industry practice and future opportunities across the built environment sector.

About You

You will have relevant professional or teaching experience within Design, Surveying, Planning and the wider Built Environment sector, together with a good understanding of current industry practice.

You will be enthusiastic, organised and confident communicating with learners from a range of backgrounds. You will also be able to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider curriculum team.

You will be committed to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment and to maintaining high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.

Hourly rate: Β£21.77 – Β£33.90 per hour (exclusive of holiday pay)
