We are seeking a motivated and proactive Trainee SPMT Operator to join our heavy lift and transport team. Working alongside experienced SPMT Operators, Heavy Lift Supervisors and Transport Leads, you will gain hands‑on experience in the operation of Self-Propelled Modular Trailers (SPMTs), engineered transport equipment and site logistics , helping to safely deliver high‑profile projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop specialist skills and build a long‑term career within the heavy lift and engineered transport industry.
What You’ll do
Support experienced operators with the setup, inspection and operation of SPMT and Intercombi equipment in line with engineering plans and project requirements.
Learn how to safely configure and operate SPMT equipment under supervision.
Assist with pre-use inspections, reporting defects and supporting basic maintenance activities.
Work alongside project managers, engineers and transport teams to help ensure safe and efficient project delivery.
Follow all company safety procedures, risk assessments and method statements.
Ensure appropriate PPE is worn at all times and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
Assist with general project activities including equipment mobilisation, load‑in/load‑out operations and site preparations.
Develop knowledge of heavy lift and transport principles through on-the-job training and formal development opportunities.
Support slinger/signaller activities and work towards relevant industry certifications where required .
Skills & Experience
Previous experience working within construction, heavy industry, logistics , transport or engineering environments.
Interest in heavy lifting, engineered transport or specialist equipment operations.
Slinger/Signaller qualification or willingness to undertake training.
A positive attitude and willingness to learn specialist heavy transport operations.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
Willingness to travel and work across various project locations.
Full UK driving licence.
