HB Tunnelling is one of the UK’s leading and fastest growing specialist tunnelling contractors, delivering complex microtunnelling, pipe jacking, shaft construction and trenchless engineering projects throughout the UK.

As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our senior leadership team.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operational delivery of HB Tunnelling's nationwide projects.

Working alongside our Contracts Managers, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme by providing leadership, resolving operational challenges and supporting our site teams.

This is a hands‑on leadership role focused on operational excellence, productivity and delivering successful projects through effective planning, resource management and collaboration.

  • What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead the day‑to‑day operational delivery of multiple tunnelling and civil engineering projects.
  • Drive programme performance and support site teams in achieving key milestones.
  • Coordinate labour, plant and specialist resources across the business to maximise efficiency and productivity.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers and Supervisors to resolve operational issues and maintain project momentum.
  • Visit projects regularly, providing practical support and ensuring consistently high standards of safety, quality and productivity.
  • Identify programme risks and implement practical recovery plans where required.
  • Work alongside Contracts Managers to ensure the operational delivery aligns with commercial and contractual objectives.
  • Promote a culture of operational excellence, teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Support the mobilisation of new projects and the successful handover of completed works.

About You

  • Proven operational management experience within civil engineering, tunnelling or major infrastructure.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent planning and resource management experience.
  • A practical problem solver who enjoys working closely with site teams.
  • Passionate about delivering projects safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
