Private capital firms are drowning in investor reporting obligations, legacy systems, and manual processes — and traditional consulting & technology solutions haven’t kept up. The old model of long PowerPoint decks, unrealistic recommendations, and transformation roadmaps that never get delivered doesn’t hold up against what AI now makes possible. We don’t just diagnose the problem — we sit with client teams and build the replacement: a live investor dashboard instead of a static quarterly PDF, an AI agent that drafts investor updates in minutes instead of an analyst’s afternoon, automated reconciliation instead of a spreadsheet nobody fully trusts. That’s what professionalise and institutionalise actually means here — a working system, not a roadmap.

Who’s accessing private markets is also changing shape. Retail investors, evergreen fund structures, and defined contribution pension schemes are becoming meaningful allocators — each with different servicing, reporting, and liquidity expectations than a traditional LP base. We’re helping define what the modern private capital firm looks like to meet that shift, and helping build it.

The Role

We need someone who can do both: hands‑on enough to build solutions directly with clients, and strategic enough to understand what a firm is really trying to achieve — shaping recommendations that are practical, high‑impact, and credible enough to land in front of a C‑suite. You’ll lead engagements across investment, finance and fund operations, and IR teams, advising on and using AI to change how GPs service their investors.

Objectives

  • Deliver 3–5 flagship AI, strategy, or investor servicing engagements with existing or new GP clients
  • Build a qualified pipeline of new client relationships across London and New York
  • Develop a scalable service model that extends delivery beyond time‑based advisory — video, AI‑built assets, client portals, and similar repeatable products
  • Build repeatable IP — frameworks, playbooks, tooling — that compounds across engagements rather than resetting with each one
  • Recruit, build, and train a high‑performing team as the practice grows

What you’ll do

  • Lead client engagements end to end: from first conversation to delivered solution
  • Get hands‑on building AI‑driven workflows and agents for all areas of private capital firm activity
  • Hold strategic, C‑suite‑level conversations — and be willing to give an honest view, not the expected one
  • Build genuine relationships with GPs, CFOs, and IR leads — the kind that outlast a single project
  • Challenge how clients currently do things, and back it up with a specific, working alternative
  • Help shape how Hazlewood itself operates and grows, not just deliver against someone else’s plan

Experience & candidate profile

  • 8+ years in private markets — investor relations, fund operations, finance, or a related advisory/consulting practice
  • Take full accountability for engagement outcomes, not just delivery of inputs
  • Comfortable being measured on results, with reward structured accordingly

Skills & knowledge

  • Hands‑on experience using Claude (or equivalent AI tools) in a private markets context — not just familiarity, real usage
  • Working knowledge of private capital data and reporting infrastructure (fund administrators, portfolio monitoring systems, industry CRMs, ILPA standards)
  • Equal parts operator and strategic advisor — you can build and you can challenge
  • Comfortable pushing back on the status quo, including with senior stakeholders
  • Prior consulting or investor relations experience is a strong plus
  • Not a fit if your instinct is to open PowerPoint first

Why this role

Highly competitive salary, structured to reflect the seniority, experience, and accountability this role carries — you’re measured on outcomes. You’d have a meaningful role in shaping the direction of the business and be rewarded for that performance.
