Accounts Assistant β The Role: We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused Accounts Assistant focusing on the Purchase Ledger, to support the day-to-day running of our Accounts Department. This is a varied role suited to someone who enjoys working across purchase ledger and wider accounts support. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial records, timely payments, and effective communication with suppliers, subcontractors, and our internal team.
Accounts Assistant β Key Responsibilities:
- Control of purchase ledger on Sage 200 including allocations, statement reconciliations and auditing nominal coding
- Verify subcontractors and carry out CIS returns
- Process and record supplier and subcontractor invoices accurately and in a timely manner
- Resolve invoice queries with suppliers and internal departments
- Prepare and process supplier payment runs in line with agreed terms
- Maintain accurate supplier account records and set up new suppliers
- Ensure correct VAT treatment and compliance with company procedures
- Assist with month-end processes, including accruals and reconciliations
- Monitor and manage the purchase ledger inbox
- Support audits by providing documentation and explanations when required
- Carry out general finance administration and ad-hoc tasks as needed
Accounts Assistant β You:
- Team player, whilst able to prioritise tasks and work independently
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Previous experience in a purchase ledger or accounts payable role
- Good understanding of accounting principles and VAT
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Confident communicator with the ability to deal with suppliers professionally
- Competent in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g. Sage or similar)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
