The post-holder will project a positive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors and deal with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way. Handing medication out to patients, following the surgery protocols. Taking payments and recording correctly on all documentation. Communication and attention to detail are vital in this role. Computer skills are required; however, training on the software will be given. Able to work on own initiative and also work as part of a team.
Main duties of the job include:
- Front of house, handing out medication to patients
- Accepting deliveries from suppliers
- Arranging deliveries to housebound patients for the driver to take out to patients
- Accurate record keeping
- Following all protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of the medication, patients, yourself and colleagues
- Ordering equipment
About us: Hazeldene House Surgery is a GP Practice that is owned by 5 GP partners and covers surrounding villages, with nearly 8000 patients. We dispense to nearly 4000 of those patients in our dispensary, handing out acute and monthly prescriptions. It is a busy practice, with great family values to all their staff. Hard work and busy, but has its rewards. You would never be bored. A lot of staff have been here 20 years plus and there is room for progression into other areas of the practice.
Job responsibilities include:
- Ensuring a high quality, safe and efficient dispensing service is available to meet the needs of patients at all times
- Operating in accordance with the Surgery dispensary Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that incorporate principles of good dispensing practice
- Developing good working relationships with patients, GP partners, nurses and other Surgery staff
- Issuing stock items and prepared prescriptions
- Collection of prescription charges/checking patient exemption statements
- Ensuring that all monies received are appropriately stored and there is a robust record of all financial transactions
- Processing and bundling prescriptions for the Prescription Pricing Authority
- Ensuring drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturers' instructions
- Ensuring that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and control recorded in the log book
- Checking that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription
- Maintaining full and accurate records of dispensing transactions
- Ensuring the dispensary is clean and tidy and that shelves are checked on a regular basis
- Attending training and events organised by the Surgery or other agencies, where appropriate
Person Specification:
- Understanding of primary care medical and dispensing services
- GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel
- Emis knowledge advantageous
- Dispensing experience
- Primary Care experience
