Hazel Tree Education are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a lovely School team in the heart of Chorley. In this role, you will support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) by delivering engaging sports and physical activities that promote physical development, social skills, and confidence as well as supporting within the classroom. Your energetic approach will help create an inclusive environment where every student feels motivated to participate and excel. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to combine your passion for sports coaching with a commitment to making a positive impact on young learners’ lives within the classroom. Please note, 80% of this role will be classroom based.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and delivering tailored sports sessions that cater to the individual needs of students with SEN.
  • Support students during physical activities by encouraging participation, ensuring safety, and promoting good behaviour management practices throughout sessions.
  • Use your expertise in sports coaching and childcare to foster a positive environment that boosts students’ confidence, teamwork, and social interaction skills.
  • Monitor student progress during activities, providing feedback and adapting exercises as necessary to meet their developmental goals.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive space by adhering to health and safety guidelines at all times.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff members to develop individualised support plans that incorporate sports and physical education into broader learning objectives.
  • Promote a fun, energetic atmosphere that motivates students to develop new skills while enjoying their physical activity sessions.
  • Support students within the classroom.

Please note this role is not a full-time sports coach role. This role will be split with sports coaching and classroom support.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in sports coaching or teaching physical education is highly desirable.
  • Strong background in working with children or students with SEN, demonstrating patience and excellent behaviour management skills.
  • Passion for sports, fitness, and promoting healthy lifestyles among young people.
  • Ability to adapt activities for diverse needs while maintaining a lively and motivating environment.
  • Relevant childcare qualifications or training in teaching physical education will be considered an asset.
