Hayward Hawk is currently recruiting for a rare opportunity to join a product-led, growth-focused technology business that is investing heavily in its data platform and analytics capability. The organisation is building the next generation of data-driven services to support a fast-growing, merchant-first ecosystem. The mission is simple: deliver real value, responsibly and at pace. Small, empowered teams. Clear outcomes. No unnecessary process. Just smart people solving real problems.

You will join a modern engineering environment where data is treated as a product, not an afterthought. This role sits at the heart of a wider transformation designing and building scalable, cloud-native data platforms that unlock insight, improve decision-making, and power the next phase of growth.

The Opportunity

As a Data Engineer, you will help design and deliver robust, high-performance data pipelines and data platforms across a diverse set of sources and systems. You will work closely with engineers, analysts, product and delivery teams to turn complex data into trusted, usable assets for the business. This is a hands-on role with real ownership: from ingestion and transformation, through to modelling, performance, reliability and quality. You will thrive here if you enjoy building things properly, improving how systems work, and taking responsibility for what you ship.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Designing, building and maintaining scalable data platforms, cloud-native workflows and ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Transforming and modelling data to support analytics, reporting and operational use cases
  • Improving data quality, performance and reliability across the platform
  • Monitoring, troubleshooting and resolving pipeline and data issues (including on-call when needed)
  • Prototyping analytical tools, automation and solutions for complex business problems
  • Collaborating with BI, Finance and wider engineering teams to deliver high-impact data solutions
  • Creating clear technical documentation and contributing to engineering best practices
  • Working in an agile, product-focused delivery environment with a strong culture of continuous improvement

What They Are Looking For

  • A degree in Computer Science (or similar technical discipline), or equivalent practical experience
  • 2-4 years experience working with SQL (e.g. Oracle, PostgreSQL or similar)
  • 2-4 years experience with Java or Groovy
  • Experience with orchestration and ingestion tools (e.g. Airflow, Airbyte or similar)
  • Experience working with APIs (REST / SOAP)
  • Exposure to cloud data warehouses and ETL/ELT tools (e.g. Snowflake, Redshift, dbt) is a plus

Why This Role?

Because this isn't about maintaining someone else's legacy stack. It's about helping shape a modern data platform, influencing how data is used across the business, and being part of a team that values outcomes over noise, ownership over hand-offs, and quality over shortcuts.

What You Will Get in Return:

  • Competitive Salary up to £55,000
  • Remote working within the UK
  • Training and Development budget
  • Extensive benefits Package!

If you want a role where you can grow, build, and genuinely make an impact this one is worth a conversation. Reach out to Aaron Pyper for more info.
