Hours: Days Regular plus adhoc paid overtime 1.5 and 2.0

The Opportunity

Haystack Selection are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing engineering and fabrication business based in South Wales. Due to continued investment and increasing customer demand, our client is looking to appoint an experienced Manual Machinist with proven experience operating large bed milling machines, ideally including Elgamill machinery. The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting and operating large manual milling machinery to machine a variety of fabricated steel structures, components and engineering parts to precise specifications. Working within a busy workshop environment, you will play a key role in supporting fabrication and engineering projects, ensuring all machining work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Elgamill and large bed milling machines.
  • Machine large fabricated steel components and engineering parts to specification.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Perform milling, drilling, boring, facing and slotting operations.
  • Produce components to required tolerances and quality standards.
  • Select and install appropriate tooling and machine settings.
  • Carry out dimensional inspections using precision measuring equipment.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with engineering drawings and customer requirements.
  • Work closely with fabrication, welding and engineering teams to support project delivery.
  • Carry out routine machine checks and basic preventative maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a safe, organised and efficient working environment.
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety policies and procedures.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Time served Previous experience working as a Manual Machinist.
  • Experience operating large bed milling machines and/or Elgamill machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience machining large fabricated steel components.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes and workshop practices.
  • Ability to work accurately to tight tolerances.
  • Competent using precision measuring equipment including: Micrometers, Verniers, Dial indicators, Height gauges.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
