Product Design Engineer – Career-Defining Opportunity Location: Caldicot Salary: Up to £45,000 + 5% annual bonus Hours: Mon–Thurs 8:30–5, Fri 8:30–1:30 (early finish Fridays!) Are you a creative engineer who loves bringing ideas to life? We’re looking for a Product Design Engineer to join a forward-thinking manufacturing business where design, innovation and hands-on engineering go hand in hand. You’ll develop clever, practical solutions used across multiple industries — designing products that need to be robust, efficient, and beautifully engineered. This isn’t a ‘CAD-only’ role; it’s hands-on, fast-moving, and lets you see your designs evolve from concept to fully manufactured products out on the shop floor. What you’ll do * Design new mechanical products and enhance existing ones using 3D CAD. * Produce detailed drawings, models, BOMs and documentation for production. * Run calculations and FEA analysis to verify performance and safety. * Get involved on the shop floor — reviewing prototypes, resolving design challenges in real time, and working closely with production to ensure your designs are built exactly as intended. * Take ownership of projects from concept through to validation and final build. * Collaborate with operations, quality and manufacturing teams to refine designs for efficient manufacture and assembly. * Support prototype builds and validation testing. What you’ll bring * Degree in Mechanical, Product or Design Engineering (or similar). * Around 3+ years in a product or mechanical design role. * Skilled in SolidWorks (or similar 3D CAD) and familiar with FEA principles. * Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and practical engineering methods. * Great problem-solving instincts and the ability to communicate ideas clearly. * Naturally curious with good attention to detail and pride in seeing your work go from screen to shop floor. What’s on offer * Competitive base salary up to £45,000 + 5% annual bonus. * 25 days holiday + bank holidays. * Access to Private medical insurance * Contributory pension. * Cycle to Work scheme and free onsite parking. * Modern, friendly working environment. * Early-finish Fridays. * Clear routes for professional development and progression within a growing business. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Engineer who wants to design products that actually get built — where you can be hands-on, collaborate directly with production, and see your ideas come to life every single day. This role may also be of interest to candidates with experience in: Product Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Design & Development Engineer, Design Engineer (Mechanical/Product), R&D Engineer, NPI Engineer (New Product Introduction), Manufacturing Design Engineer, CAD Design Engineer, Project Design Engineer, Product Development Engineer, Industrial Designer Interested?
