Fitter / Turner
to join the toolroom of an established manufacturing business. This is a hands-on role involving
turning, milling, surface grinding and cylindrical grinding , alongside mechanical fitting. You will work closely with the Toolroom Manager to manufacture, modify and repair tooling and components to support production. Key Responsibilities Set and operate workshop machinery to carry out turning, milling, surface grinding and cylindrical grinding.
Manufacture, modify and repair tooling and components.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, working accurately to specified dimensions and tolerances.
Carry out mechanical fitting, assembly and adjustment of tooling and components.
Inspect completed work using appropriate measuring equipment.
Support the Toolroom Manager with day-to-day workshop requirements and prioritise work to meet production needs.
Maintain a tidy workshop and follow safe working procedures.
Skills and Experience Previous experience as a Fitter / Turner, Toolmaker, Manual Machinist or in a similar engineering workshop role.
Practical experience in turning, milling, surface grinding and cylindrical grinding.
Good mechanical fitting skills.
Ability to read engineering drawings and work to close tolerances.
Confident using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers and vernier callipers.
A practical approach to problem-solving and good attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
An engineering apprenticeship or relevant qualification would be advantageous.
