The Opportunity

Haystack Selection are recruiting on behalf of an established South Wales manufacturer seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join their engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys fault finding, improving equipment reliability and supporting production within a busy manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring plant and equipment operate safely and efficiently whilst contributing towards ongoing improvement projects across the site.

The Role

Reporting into the Engineering Manager, you will provide both reactive and planned maintenance support across manufacturing operations. The position would suit an electrically biased engineer with strong fault-finding abilities who enjoys working closely with production teams and taking ownership of equipment performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance activities across site machinery and equipment.
  • Respond quickly to breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
  • Diagnose and rectify electrical faults safely and efficiently.
  • Support continuous improvement and reliability projects.
  • Assist with machinery installations and modifications.
  • Work closely with production teams to improve equipment performance.
  • Complete maintenance records and documentation accurately.
  • Identify recurring faults and implement long-term solutions.
  • Support health and safety initiatives across the engineering department.
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with site procedures and engineering standards.
  • Participate in root cause investigations following equipment failures.
  • Assist with maintaining critical spare parts and stock levels.

Experience Required

  • Previous experience as a Maintenance Engineer within manufacturing or production environments.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience working with motors, sensors, relays, contactors and inverters.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with PLC fault finding would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance systems.
  • Good communication skills and a proactive approach.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • Apprentice trained, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • 18th Edition would be advantageous but not essential.

Desirable Experience

  • PLC experience (Siemens, Allen Bradley or similar).
  • Pneumatics and hydraulics knowledge.
  • Continuous Improvement experience.
  • Experience working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
