My client is a leading consultancy seeking an experienced Engineering Lead to support the Digital Tools & Partnerships workstream within a large-scale enterprise transformation programme. You'll be responsible for providing technical leadership across multiple engineering teams, driving engineering standards, overseeing complex integrations, and ensuring the successful delivery of scalable cloud-native solutions.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering leadership and technical oversight across multiple delivery teams.
- Define, implement, and enforce engineering standards, development processes, and architecture best practices.
- Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex engineering challenges and critical production issues.
- Support the design and delivery of enterprise integrations involving Sage and other business-critical systems.
- Guide implementation of scalable integration patterns across APIs, middleware, event-driven platforms, and external systems.
- Collaborate with architects, product teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure successful solution delivery.
- Drive best practices across software engineering, DevOps, observability, resiliency, and operational excellence.
- Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical design assessments.
- Provide technical mentoring and hands-on guidance to engineering teams.
- Contribute directly to troubleshooting, prototyping, solution development, and implementation activities where required.
- Support engineering modernisation initiatives and continuous improvement across tooling and delivery practices.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as an Engineering Lead, Technical Lead, Principal Engineer, or similar senior technical role.
- Strong background in backend software engineering and enterprise integration.
- Experience designing and implementing APIs, microservices, middleware solutions, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience integrating enterprise platforms such as Sage, ERP, finance, or business-critical systems.
- Strong knowledge of AWS and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and DevOps practices.
- Experience with Python and/or other modern backend programming languages.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, application resiliency, and operational support.
- Experience conducting architecture reviews, technical governance, and engineering quality assurance.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.
- Ability to remain hands-on while leading multiple engineering teams.
Desirable:
- Experience within Banking, Financial Services, or large-scale enterprise transformation programmes.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of observability, monitoring, and site reliability practices.
- Experience supporting geographically distributed engineering teams.
- Exposure to AI-enabled engineering tools, automation frameworks, or developer productivity tooling.
