We're looking for someone with a background in drug and alcohol services to join our client's senior leadership team. This is a great opportunity to help shape high-quality clinical care for people affected by substance use.

As Lead Nurse, you'll work closely with the Service Manager and Lead Doctor to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate nursing practice aligned with national guidance. You'll provide clinical leadership, expert oversight, and drive continuous improvement across the service.

Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (22.5 hours per week across 3 flexible days (Monday-Friday))

Dates: asap - 3 months (temporary contract will be reviewed after 3 months)

Pay Rate: to £38/hr PAYE or £45/hr umbrella (no limited companies)

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead safe, accountable nursing practice for yourself and the team
  • Ensure effective clinical pathways for people with addiction-related health needs
  • Oversee immunisation and BBV programmes, including staffing
  • Maintain high standards in infection control, health and safety, and governance
  • Keep clinical knowledge up to date and support staff development
  • Investigate incidents and complaints when required
  • Manage medical emergencies competently, including overdose and anaphylaxis
  • Represent the service professionally with commissioners and partners
  • Contribute to audits and performance targets
  • Ensure compliance with CQC standards and organisational policies
  • Promote evidence-based practice and continuous improvement
  • Provide line management, supervision, and development for nursing staff
  • Ensure staff understand relevant legislation and clinical requirements
  • Support detoxification processes across sites
  • Conduct performance reviews, manage risks, and take action where needed

What we're looking for:

  • NMC registered nurse with strong clinical leadership experience
  • Knowledge of substance misuse, community health, or related fields
  • Ability to manage risk, support teams, and respond confidently to medical emergencies
  • Commitment to safeguarding and person-centred care
