You’ll work across GCP, Kubernetes/GKE and Infrastructure as Code, helping scale an established, high-availability payments platform while leading platform engineering for a new AI-driven decisioning product.The opportunityThe business is investing heavily in evolving its Platform Engineering capability, with a particular focus on Developer Experience, self-service and treating the platform as a product.You’ll have the opportunity to:Lead, mentor and develop a distributed team of 7 Platform Engineers, with scope for further growthRemain technically involved across GCP, Kubernetes/GKE and TerraformLead platform engineering work supporting a new AI decisioning platformHelp scale an established global payments platform where security, resilience and availability are criticalShape architecture and challenge technical decisionsDrive greater automation, self-service and Infrastructure as CodeImprove Developer Experience and make it easier for software engineers to build and deployInfluence the longer-term direction of the Platform Engineering functionTechnical credibility is key
- you will need strong experience across:Google Cloud Platform (GCP)KubernetesTerraform / Infrastructure as CodeDesigning and operating secure, highly available production environmentsPlatform Engineering, DevOps, SRE or Cloud InfrastructureTechnical leadership, mentoring or supporting other engineersExperience within payments, fintech or financial services would be valuable, particularly where you’ve worked with highly available or security-critical systems, but it isn’t essential.You also don’t need to be a long-established Engineering Manager.This could be an excellent move for a Senior, Staff or Principal Platform Engineer who is already the person others turn to for technical direction and mentoring, and now wants to take genuine ownership of a team while remaining close to the technology.Why consider it?This isn’t a role where you’ll inherit a finished platform and simply keep the lights on.You’ll have the opportunity to lead a strong engineering team, influence architecture, build a more mature internal platform and help establish the foundations for a new AI product, while developing your own career as a technical leader.Salary: 100,000+, with flexibility for exceptional candidates
