We are working with a forward-thinking local authority in South Wales that is investing heavily in its data capabilities to drive better decision-making and service delivery. Due to increased demand across its data function, the council requires an experienced Data Engineering contractor to support the development of scalable data models, reporting solutions, and overall data infrastructure.

Your new role
This is a hands-on Data Engineering role, ideal for a contractor with strong Power BI and data modelling expertise. You will be responsible for designing and developing robust data models, enabling accurate and efficient reporting across the organisation. A key part of the role will involve building and optimising Power BI dashboards and reports, ensuring they meet business requirements and deliver actionable insights.
You will work closely with stakeholders to understand data needs, translate them into technical solutions, and ensure data is structured effectively to support reporting and analytics. The role will also involve writing and optimising DAX measures, improving performance, and ensuring consistency across reports. This is a delivery-focused position where success is measured by the quality, usability, and performance of data models and reporting outputs.
What you'll need to succeed
- Strong experience in Data Engineering / BI development roles
- Proven expertise in Power BI (dashboard and report development)
- Solid experience in Data Modelling (e.g. star schema, dimensional modelling)
- Advanced knowledge of DAX (Data Analysis Expressions)
- Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality solutions in a contract environment
- Experience working with public sector or local government organisations (desirable)
