Many newly-qualified accountants are attracted by opportunities in industry. However, remaining in practice for a further period can provide significant benefits to your long-term career. This role offers exposure to a wider variety of businesses, industries and commercial challenges than most single-company finance roles, while also giving you the opportunity to develop leadership, client management and technical expertise. It is an excellent stepping stone for those looking to build a broader skill set before deciding on a long-term specialism, whether that ultimately remains in practice or leads to a move into industry in the future.

This established and growing accountancy practice works with a broad portfolio of owner-managed businesses, charities and not-for-profit organisations across a range of sectors. With a strong reputation for client service and staff development, the firm offers a collaborative environment where people are encouraged to develop their skills and progress their careers.

As an Audit Supervisor, you will take responsibility for leading audit assignments for a varied portfolio of clients, working closely with managers and supporting the development of junior team members. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading audit assignments from planning through to completion.
  • Reviewing audit work and providing coaching to junior staff.
  • Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts and related reports.
  • Identifying key audit risks and ensuring compliance with professional standards.
  • Liaising directly with clients and building strong working relationships.
  • Managing budgets, timescales and workflow across multiple assignments.
  • Supporting partners and managers with wider client service activities and business development initiatives.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • ACA or ACCA qualified.
  • Current Audit Supervisor or an experienced Audit Senior looking to step up.
  • Strong knowledge of UK audit and accounting standards.
  • Experience supervising and developing junior team members.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to client service.

What you'll get in return:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
  • Clear opportunities for career progression.
  • Ongoing professional development and training.
  • Exposure to a diverse and interesting client portfolio.
  • Supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • The opportunity to continue building your technical and commercial expertise post-qualification before specialising in a particular industry sector.
  • Exposure to a broad range of businesses, stakeholders and industries, helping you develop a wider skill set than many first-time moves into industry can offer.
  • Increased responsibility for managing client relationships, mentoring junior staff and leading assignments, providing valuable leadership experience at an early stage of your career.
  • A strong platform for future career options, whether your long-term goal is to progress within practice or move into industry at a later stage with broader experience and greater commercial exposure.
