Mechanical Maintenance Engineer 4 on / 4 off Shift Pattern | 12-hour shifts (07:00-19:00 / 19:00-07:00)
Hays Recruitment are working in partnership with a leading FM contractor to recruit a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer for a large, operational hospital site. This is a shift-based role working a 4 on / 4 off pattern, consisting of 12-hour shifts alternating between days and nights. The position is mechanically biased but requires flexibility to support other trades as part of a multi-skilled estates team.
The Role
Working within a critical healthcare environment, you will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance and reliability of mechanical building services, ensuring hospital operations remain safe, compliant, and fully functional at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on mechanical systems
- Fault finding, diagnostics, and repair of mechanical plant and equipment
- Maintenance of HVAC systems, pumps, motors, valves, pipework, and associated services
- Responding to breakdowns and emergency call-outs during shift hours
- Assisting other engineering trades when required to support site operations
- Ensuring all works comply with health safety legislation and hospital procedures
- Completing documentation, maintenance records, and shift handover reports
Skills Experience Required
- Recognised mechanical engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, City Guilds, or equivalent)
- Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role
- Strong mechanical fault-finding capability
- Willingness to work a rotating day/night shift pattern
- Flexible attitude with the ability to support other trades where required
- Good communication skills and a professional approach
