You will be joining a leading Tier 1 civil engineering contractor with a strong presence across the UK, delivering large-scale infrastructure and asset management projects within the highways and rail sectors. Known for their commitment to safety, quality, and innovation, they play a key role in maintaining and improving critical transport networks.

In your new role as a Structures Inspector, you will support the delivery of inspection programmes across a diverse portfolio of highway and rail structures within the Hemel Hempstead area. Working as part of an experienced inspection team, you will take ownership of site inspections through to reporting, ensuring all works are delivered to the high standards expected of a Tier 1 contractor.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out General and Principal Inspections across a range of structures
  • Producing accurate and detailed reports using client systems such as BridgeStation
  • Managing and prioritising your workload in line with structured inspection programmes
  • Delivering work in line with strict KPIs, quality standards, and client expectations
  • Collaborating with engineering, design, and asset management teams
  • Identifying structural defects and applying BCI scoring in line with industry standards
  • Maintaining a strong focus on health, safety, and compliance at all times
  • Working within live highway and rail environments, including at height and in confined spaces
  • Supporting planned out-of-hours work, including occasional night shifts

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Hold an HNC or equivalent qualification in Structural Engineering or a related discipline
  • Have experience in structural inspections, ideally within highways or rail environments
  • Have knowledge of DMRB standards, particularly CS450
  • Be BICS accredited or working towards Lantra or a similar certification
  • Have experience using BridgeStation or similar asset management systems
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of BCI scoring and defect identification
  • Be comfortable working at height and within confined spaces
  • Possess a CSCS card and SMSTS (or equivalent), or be willing to obtain
